Wind Measurement- Wind Turbines

Our Services

Wind Assessment for potential wind turbine site.

An example for wind assessment for potential wind turbine sites is provided below.  Please contact us for a site specific quote.  Alternative options for the purchase of a complete mast with instrumentation or a mast only kit are also provided at the bottom of this page.

1) Site Assessment for wind survey

a. site visit to discuss customer requirements plus survey grid connection options, tree heights and relevant coordinates;

b. model the wind shade effects of trees and buildings on the wind resource and generate a basic distribution of wind speed and wind direction;

c. optimise turbine siting based on above results;

d. predict energy yield from alternative turbines using the estimated wind speed and direction distribution together with the manufacturer’s power curves.

2) Met Mast Installation and Rental Depending on the outcome of the Site Assessment, consider installing a twin anemometer and wind vane system at the proposed hub height and physically measuring the wind resource over a 2 month period.

The twin anemometer system is used to estimate wind shear, an important parameter when analysing obstacles to any potential wind turbine site. The data will be used to apply a measure/correlate/predict procedure with the nearest available met data and refine the model developed in 1b. Procedure 1d & 1e will then be repeated with the new data. In the case of a low wind period the rental period can be extended. By using our automated mobile coms system we can advise you of progress at no extra cost.

3) Prepare a planning application documents including drawings, photomontage and energy yield as a function of position. If required, Heidra will act as agent chargeable at an hourly rate.

We supply the complete 12 m mast, including packing, instrumentation, ground anchors and manual drive rod.  A mast-only kit without instrumentation is available.  Alternative specifications and installer kits are available on request.
